      FAQ

What is Mappinest, in one sentence?

Mappinest is a developer-first platform for shipping production-ready web GIS: we deliver custom map solutions, and we also provide the APIs and hosting to serve tiles, styles, and map assets reliably.

Is Mappinest a replacement for Leaflet, Mapbox or MapLibre?

No. Mappinest hosts your tiles, map styles and other data with budget-friendly pricing. You keep using Mapbox GL JS, MapLibre, Leaflet, or OpenLayers as the renderer.

How do I integrate Mappinest into my existing map?

You can consume tiles and styles directly over plain URLs with an API key, no mandatory SDKs and no vendor lock-in. If you want even lower overhead and fewer requests, you can optionally install the Mappinest SDK for better caching, but it’s never required.

      What endpoints are available?

Mappinest provides standard, URL-based endpoints secured with an API key, including XYZ vector tiles (PBF), XYZ raster tiles (PNG/JPEG/WebP), TileJSON, Style JSON, and WMTS. User-uploaded MBTiles and PMTiles can be served as vector or raster depending on source metadata. All endpoints work with existing map renderers and GIS tools without a custom SDK.

      What formats do you support?

For user-uploaded data, the platform currently supports MBTiles and PMTiles in both vector and raster variants. GeoJSON, Shapefile, and GeoTIFF ingestion is planned next, including server-side tiling and optimization.

      Is this production-ready?

Yes. Tiles are served via CDN with caching, access tokens, and usage analytics. The stack is already running in production and used in real client projects.

      Can I migrate away later?

Yes. Your data stays fully portable and remains in the same formats you uploaded, with no proprietary wrappers or transformations. You can take it and host it anywhere else at any time. Any edited basemap styles can be exported as JSON in the standard Open Map Tiles (OMT) specification format. You’re free to move and self-host at any point.

      Who is this for?

Developers, startups, and GIS teams who want to move fast on application development and map design, without spending time on tile infrastructure, server tuning, or CDN configuration. You get predictable pricing and control, while avoiding the complexity of self-hosting tiles and configuring styles, fonts, or glyphs for custom basemaps.
